Do you qualify for NDIS Support?

Do you qualify for NDIS Support?

NDIS support is available to Australian Residents living in Australia aged between 7 and 65 years. In order to qualify you generally need to meet one of the following conditions:

  • need support from a person because of a permanent or significant disability,
  • use special equipment because of a permanent or significant disability, or
  • need some support now to reduce future needs*
Do i qualify for ndis

A permanent or significant disability means that your disability is of a permanent nature and you are likely to need support over your lifetime. This disability also stops you from participating in social or economic activities or effects your ability to:

  • communicate
  • interact socially
  • be mobile
  • self care activities
  • self management activities
  • learn

Generally, an impairment or disability is considered ‘permanent’ where it cant be cured or substantially improved. If you have multiple impairments, the NDIA will assess them each separately but you only need to have one permanent impairment.

Otherwise if you do not have such a disability, you may be able to access under the last dot point, which is called early intervention. This is needing support under NDIS to reduce your future needs. This is where there is a possibility of stopping the disability from being permanent. Or it may be where providing support now will help them not require more supports down the track.

How to apply?

If you meet the conditions, you will need to submit an access request. during this phase you may be asked for some paperwork from your doctor or information on how your disability impacts your life. This is a great stepping stone to providing the NDIS with information they need to see what you may need and how they can help.

What is the NDIS?

NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme and its a way to provide disability services to Australians. These services will be funded for people who meet the criteria to allow them to live a normal life.

It aims to draw on both informal supports (being family, friends and other support networks) as well as more formalised supports to provide greater access to services and participate more fully in the community.

What type of services can I get?

If you are eligible for NDIS support you can access a range of services to support you in your daily living needs, rehabilitation, community engagement and other activities that can help give you a better quality of life.

Some services may include equipment to help you with movement or physical support such as physiotherapy.

Other services include:

  • Transporting you from one place to the other
  • Housekeeping and cleaning of your home
  • Gardening and lawn mowing
  • General home maintenance

The range of services provided by the NDIS is long and to get a good understanding of what it is you exactly need, you should contact your local area coordinator by clicking here and following the links to find a local area coordinator near you.

What supports can Help to You Provide?

Help to you is a NDIS registered provider. We can assist with your transport needs whether you need to access community activities or general doctors appointments.

We can also help you with the more mundane tasks around the house like housekeeping and cleaning. Taking this kind of work off your plate can really help free your time and give you the peace of mind knowing that’s its taken care of. The NDIS allows for cleaning any areas around your home to provide you with the comfort you deserve.

Gardening and yard maintenance is also supported by the NDIS. This can be anything from lawn mowing to weeding. The aim is to provide you with a relaxing outdoor space to help improve your general wellbeing.

Odd jobs around the house can also be provided through your NDIS plan. These things include changing your lightbulbs or fixing your leaky tap. These are some of the high level items that can be provided. Other things may include some odd jobs around that house that you would generally be able to do by yourself but cannot. Because we are a registered service provider, we can help you find out what jobs can and cant be claimed through NDIS.

Under some NDIS plans, you can chose to be ‘plan managed’. What this means is you are able to select the providers you need who are not necessarily registered NDIS providers and the plan manager can take care of all your invoices for you. Help to you can provide you with this plan management service.
